Car Hire at Addis Ababa Bole airport (ADD)

You can book a vehicle from Green Motion (Tel +251 982 151 617 - Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 5:30 pm, Saturdays from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm) before your trip. Upon arrival at the airport, a company representative will be waiting for you with a sign displaying your name. You will then be transferred to the rental office by shuttle bus.

- To drive in Ethiopia, you will need a temporary permit, which can be obtained from the Transport and Communications Office located on Asmara Road, Addis Ababa. A valid residence permit is required to apply for this temporary permit.

- With the temporary permit, you will be allowed to drive in the country for one week.

- It is recommended to hire a driver along with the vehicle, as many companies charge extra if you drive the car yourself. Additionally, this is a safer option since traffic in Addis Ababa is particularly chaotic, and drivers often do not follow the rules, such as overtaking on both sides or disregarding road lanes.

- Ensure you arrange medical and emergency insurance in your own country, as some parts of Ethiopia lack insurance companies or emergency services.

1. Certify that you have a valid driver's license to drive in the destination country. If you are a foreigner, check if you need to validate your license in your country of origin. It should be noted that the International permit is NOT valid by itself, it must always be accompanied by the National Driver's License.
 
2. Documentation and vehicle insurance required according to current traffic regulations.
 
3. Take into account the traffic rules that currently apply in the destination country. Maximum speeds allowed on highways, avenues and streets, priorities of passage at intersections without traffic lights, tolerance of allowed blood alcohol, etc.
 
4. Direction of movement and the way in which cars should be driven on the streets. If the side where the steering wheel is located in the cars of your country matches the vehicles in the destination country.
 
5. Know the procedure to follow in case of starring in or suffering a traffic accident.
