Teniente Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport, opened in December 1964, is the second most important airport in Peru. It operates domestic destinations and international flights to Chile, Bolivia, Colombia and Ecuador. Due to its dangerous location in the middle of the city, it is projected to be replaced by the new Chinchero Airport, located on the outskirts of Cusco.
