Overnight layover guide. Sleeping facilities in the public zone or boarding area
Please note that some published services and schedules may be subject to change. If the idea is to spend the night in the public area, consider a plan B in case the stay inside the airport is only allowed for those who are about to board.
Spending the night at the airport
Hamburg airport operates numerous flights and connections. For this reason, it is not uncommon to see many passengers waiting for their flight to depart during the night. Although the terminals are open 24 hours a day, passengers wishing to spend the night on the premises must remain in the Arrivals area after the security check closes. Also, entry is not permitted from 1:00 am to 4:00 am.
Where to rest: There are no seats in the Arrivals area, so the only option is to sleep on the floor. It is therefore advisable to have a sleeping bag or blankets. There are also some VIP lounges inside the airport, but they close at night. A hotel is connected to the terminals, and some other nearby accommodation offers free shuttle services.
Baggage: Luggage storage offices are only available from 4:30 am to 11:00 pm. This means you will need to stay with your bags until check-in.
Eating and drinking: No overnight options are available at this time.
Restrooms: Showers available at the Airport Plaza and in the VIP lounges.
Wi-Fi: Free for 24 hours.
Other services available around the clock: ATMs, children's play areas, prayer room, baby changing facilities.
