Overnight layover guide. Sleeping facilities in the public zone or boarding area
Please note that some published services and schedules may be subject to change. If the idea is to spend the night in the public area, consider a plan B in case the stay inside the airport is only allowed for those who are about to board.
Spending the night at the airport
Heraklion airport operates many seasonal flights, so it tends to be very busy during the high season, even at night. It is advisable to have a mask, earplugs or headphones to help you rest. If possible, include toiletries, comfortable clothes, a blanket and an inflatable pillow. While the airport is secure, it is important to be aware of your belongings and your surroundings at all times.
Where to rest: The airport does not offer many possibilities for sleeping in public areas, other than a few seats on the upper floor. Another option (for a fee or through various memberships) is to use the VIP lounge on the first floor, although it is closed at night. There are also several hotels in the vicinity.
Baggage: There is a 24-hour left-luggage service in the car park so that you can forget about your bags until check-in time.
Eating and drinking: As stores inside the airport are usually pretty expensive, you may want to have some snacks prepared in advance.
Wi-Fi: The service is free and unlimited.
Other services available around the clock: ATMs, baby changing room, medical centre.
