Macau International Airport, opened on November 9, 1995, is one of the most important in China. Being within an administrative region, immigration formalities are required for flights between Mainland China and Macau. It is the air link between China and Taiwan. There are information counters on the Arrivals and Departures levels and a tourist office on the ground floor.
The airport is located 3 km (1.8 miles) south of the centre of Macau, on an artificial island connected by road to the island side, at the eastern end of the island of Taipa.

There are two open-air car parks located on either side of the terminal (North and South). Parking is charged on an hourly basis for stays of up to 9 hours, but daily rates apply for stays of 10 hours or more. The payment office is located in the middle of the Arrivals Hall.
