Overnight layover guide. Sleeping facilities in the public zone or boarding area
Please note that some published services and schedules may be subject to change. If the idea is to spend the night in the public area, consider a plan B in case the stay inside the airport is only allowed for those who are about to board.
Spending the night at the airport
Sydney airport closes for a few hours in the evening. However, if you have a ticket for the following morning, security staff may allow you to spend the night in a waiting area located in Terminal 1. Keep some warm clothes ready, as the place can get quite cold and you will most likely have to stay outside the building.
Where to rest: Most seats inside the site have armrests. In particular, the designated waiting area for overnight passengers inside the airport is poorly equipped and has very few benches. There are several VIP lounges within the terminals if you want to enjoy more comfort. If you want a longer break, there is accommodation inside Terminal 1 and a couple of hotels opposite the terminals.
Baggage: There is a left-luggage service in Terminal 1, but it only operates from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm.
Eating and drinking: There is a vending machine inside the designated waiting area of Terminal 1.
Restrooms: Showers available in Terminal 1 and the VIP lounges.
Wi-Fi: Free of charge and unlimited.
Other services available 24 hours a day: ATMs, prayer rooms, children's entertainment areas, baby care facilities, drinking fountains.
